Lonely Are the Brave

In 1953 the American West is disappearing, and only a few true cowboys are left to wander the range. One is Jack Burns (Kirk Douglas) who seems oblivious to modern life. When his old friend’s wife (Gena Rowlands) asks him to help her husband escape jail, Jack makes sure he is incarcerated in the same New Mexico jail, but gets more than he bargains for with a mean-spirited guard (George Kennedy). Jack manages to escape on an old reliable nag, but the sheriff (Walter Matthau) is hot on his trail with all the modern reliance on technology never available to the old-time posse. The New Mexico badlands give Jack a good chance to escape even in the modern age, but helicopters and radio transmissions may be too much.
