A renegade US General and his soldiers seize a stockpile of chemical weapons, they storm Alcatraz island, taking hostages and threatening to kill millions of others, it is up to FBI chemist Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) and John Mason (Sean Connery), a former SAS soldier and escaped Alcatraz inmate, to disarm the weapons before they are unleashed upon San Francisco.
