Fiona (Jeni Courtney), a little Irish girl, goes to live on an island with her grandparents. She then hears a story about one of her forebears who had been in love with a mythical creature called a Selkie, which is part human and part seal. Fiona’s little brother has been living with seals for a few years after being carried out to the ocean in a small boat. She thinks she sees this boy on Roan Inish, a small and desolate island. She tries to reclaim him from the seals with help from her older brother, who helps her to build a little house on the island.
