Ernest Bliss (Cary Grant) is anything but blissful. In fact as heir to a vast fortune, he is rather unhappy that he has never experienced the joy of working for what is his. So, in an effort to prove that he can work, Bliss makes a bet that he can work for one full year and never tough his family money. He meets a lovely yet poor woman, Frances Clayton (Mary Brian). Bliss finds out that Frances will soon marry a man, not out of love, but because it has all been arranged by her family. Knowing he must do something to help her, Bliss proposes marriage but must use some of his untouchable money, thus losing the bet. However, being among those who work for a living has changed Bliss. He chooses to invite all of his new friends to his wedding and ignoring his more wealthy pals. Now will Frances and Ernest Bliss truly find their blissful life?
