Jim Natter (William Sadler) is the leader of a violent Ku Klux Klan lodge. He is found dead by a gunshot. His teenage son Eric Natter (Jeremy Lelliott) is an eye-witness and is taken in police custody to keep him safe during the investigation. Four police officers are given the responsibility of taking him to a safe house. While driving, they are ambushed and three of them die. Deputy Lawrence (David Keith) accused the survivor Jerry Robinson (Courtney B. Vance), a black man, of killing Jim before he died. Jerry’s only chance of survival is Eric’s statement but Eric himself is racist and is not telling the truth.
