Quirt Evans (John Wayne) is truly an all around "badman". He has no problems living the life of crime until he finds himself fallen for a sweet quaker girl. Her family takes him in after he was thrown from his horse and nurses him back to health. Penelope Worth (Gail Russell) is so different from all the women he has previously know in his life. Even the local marshall McClintock (Harry Carrey) can't imagine that a man such as Quirt can redeem himself for the love of a good woman and he stalks him around town just waiting for a chance to arrest him. No one is sure he has changed and he may never get the chance to win the hand of this sweet angel. Can he make the move from his world of crime to her much different quaker world?
