This star-packed football drama is a study in rising and falling stars in the world of football. It follows a professional football team through one season, both on the field and behind the scenes. The team's aging coach, Tony D'Amato (Al Pacino) fights to establish his relevancy in a game the commentators say is passing him by, while the team's new female owner, Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz) battles to prove herself in the male-dominated world of professional sports. On the field, through stunning on-the-field cinematography, we follow the stories of many of the players on the team. Veteran quarterback Jack 'Cap' Rooney (Dennis Quaid) battles both time and injury in what could be his final season. The young quarterback who replaces him, Willie Beamen (Jamie Foxx), finds himself thrusted into the spotlight, both for good and for ill. Wide receiver Julian Washington (LL Cool J), worries about his contract bonus, with his fate in the hands of a young, inexperienced quarterback. Over the course of the season, their destinies all intertwine as they work with, and sometimes against, each other.
