The Grinch (Boris Karloff) is a cantankerous loner who lives on a mountain high above Whoville. One Christmas Eve he decides to dress up in a Santa Clause disguise so that he can steal Christmas from the Whoville citizens. The Grinch reasons that if he takes away Christmas, the Whos will be so sad, they will not bother him wth their cheerful celebrating and feasting. He treks down the mountain and begins pilfering every house in the town. During one of his raids, he meets up unexpectedly with the tiniest citizen in Whoville; little Cindy Lou Who (Linda Foray). After he convinces her to get back to bed; he returns with his spoils to his cold, mountain home and waits to hear the cries of despair. To the Grinch's surprise the Whos are unaffected, even though they have nothing. Their joyful singing on Christmas morning around the town tree, suddenly touches the mean old Grinch's heart...
