The Fighting Kentuckian is the story of a hardened man named John Breen (John Wayne) who has returned from fighting in the Kentucky State Militia. Upon his return he meets a beautiful young Frenchwoman named Fleurette De Marchand (Vera Ralston) who was exiled from her native France on charges of treason and conspiracy. They immediately fall in love with each other and move to her settlement, where she lives with her countrymen and women. The French folk begin to suspect that someone or a group of men wants their land is willing to steal it if they have to. The villagers must now rely on the military expertise of Breen if they are to defeat the men and save their land.
