FOREWORD
We have pleasure in presenting the fourth edition of our enlarged catalogue. There has been a considerable increase of interest in card collecting since our last major revision five years ago, and series are being currently issued, and collected, in many countries. The scope of our own stocks of cards has been equally broadened, and we have thus been able to introduce many new series. Nearly seven thousand different sets are included in this volume, many of which are priced for the first time in any dealer's catalogue, and we believe this to be the most comprehensive single book ever published.
As interest in the hobby continues to grow the demand for many series nas continued to deplete our stocks, so that there is a continued increase in prices: however there are still many series that can be obtained for a modest outlay, particularly when one considers that it is some forty years since cigarette cards were generally issued. It is likely that prices will continue to increase at a higher rate than general inflation, thus giving a sound investment, as well as hours of pleasure.
The advent of plastic albums has made a great impact on collecting. For the first time collectors are able to house cards of all sizes in complete safety, in a method which enables them to look at their collections without having to handle the individual cards. We are pleased to be able to continue to offer an album which we believe to be the best and the most competitively priced obtainable. Descriptions of card sizes in the catalogue have been modified to correspond with the album page sizes (see page 4).
