Plot

Product description The essays in this book are among the papers presented at the 1989 and 1990 liturgy conferences sponsored by the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy. The themes of the conferences were Ritual and Pastoral Care and Disciples at the Crossroads. The papers explore the questions that affect the growth and development of the Church with emphasis upon leadership, sacramental celebration, ritual authenticity and religious meaning in what is sometimes perceived as a hostile culture. From the Inside Flap How many of us would not love to be one of the travelers to Emmaus who, meeting Jesus on the road, could discuss with such enlightenment "the things that have happened in these days"? Certainly ministry, leadership, and the changes in Sunday celebrations caused by the shortage of priests would be among the topics discussed today. These twelve essays, fruit of two conferences sponsored by the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy, are a kind of "meeting at the crossroads," exploring the perennial questions that affect the growth and development of the Church in any age: leadership, sacramental celebration, ritual authenticity, and religious meaning in what is often perceived as an alien culture. Contributors include Elaine J. Ramshaw; Paul Philibert, O.P.; Gilbert Ostdiek, O.F.M.; John Page; Richard P. McBrien; James D. Whitehead; Evelyn E. Whitehead; John F. Baldovin, S.J.; Mary Ann Jordan; Kathleen Hughes, R.S.C.J.; Peter E. Fink, S.J.; Donald M. Clark; and Kathleen Fernholz.
