This work treats the text and application of John's first epistle in a masterful fashion. The material is not technical (even though the Greek text is used as the basis of the author's exposition) and the contents will be found to be most edifying. Each chapter appeared serially in the "Homiletic Magazine," and expounds John's message with clarity as well as insight into the Apostle's theme and purpose. The practical application of the truth inherent in the text to the life of every believer is fully in accord with the best evangelical tradition. This volume is not one to be read through quickly and then laid aside. Rather each meditation should be carefully pondered. Each section covered by the author in his exposition should be savored singly and separately. The reader should dwell upon it until it becomes a part of his experience, his permanent possession. The more the truth of God's Word is internalized, the greater will be the blessing received.
