William Barclay drew from his vast knowledge of classical history and language in this detailed study of "the fruit of the Spirit," and "the works of the flesh." He carefully examines the use and meaning of each word in: (1) the original Greek, (2) the New Testament, and (3) the works of such philosophers as Plato and Aristotle. But this is more than a mere word study. Dr. Barclay also thoroughly explores Paul's idea of the warfare that takes place between body and spirit. The material in this book is so skillfully brought together that even those entirely unfamiliar with Greek will find it interesting, and along with the author will become aware that "there are times when English, as compared to Greek, is a poverty-stricken language."
