"The difficulties of communicating in a context where the mood is low expectation and 'more of the same' are so enormous that all concerns with authority, position, and public presence must be relinquished in the service of the hearing of the message.Many who say "Here we go again" have not in fact ever gone before.The modest proposal being offered here is that the listener's experience of overhearing is a natural, effective, and at times life-changing dynamic that belongs in the church's classroom and sanctuary.In the hearing of these stories, the listener overcomes the distance, perhaps surprised at the time, not because these are Bible stories but because the listener says, "Life is that way; I am that way; I have done that, felt that, thought that." -- Back cover
