This documentary traces the career of Bob Dylan from his earliest years to his work in the early 21st century. Dylan's influences are discussed including Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Hank Williams. The focus of the documentary is the years between 1961 and 1966 when Dylan hit the peak of his popularity as a singer. Highlighted are moments like when Dylan changed his musical style from acoustic to "plugged-in" at an outdoor concert. Interviews are used to bridge the span of Dylan's career and includes sit-down interviews with poet Allen Ginsberg, musician Dave Van Ronk and ex-wife Joan Baez who was also a profound influence on Dylan's life. Historical never before released footage is also included in the documentary and includes the now infamous incident from a London concert when Dylan began playing electric and was heckled by some fans.
