The Wire
The Wire: Season 1
Unlike most television crime dramas, which neatly introduce and then solve a case all in the space of one hour, HBO's THE WIRE follows one single drug and homicide investigation throughout the length of an entire season. Centered on the drug culture of inner-city Baltimore, the series' storyline unfolds from the points of view of both the criminals lording the streets and the police officers determined to bring them down.

Baltimore detective Jimmy McNulty gets assigned to a new task force.
McNulty feels the heat when a witness who testified against D'Angelo is killed.
The early-morning 'field interviews' by Herc, Carver, and Prez result in a minor riot.
McNulty and Greggs try to get Hardcase to turn informant as arraignment begins for those caught in the raid.
McNulty's detail finally gets 'clone' pagers to track Barksdale and his gang, but nobody can crack the codes used by the callers.
McNulty and Greggs ask for a delay in a murder bust in order to preserve the wiretap.
Tipped off by the wire, Greggs, Herc, Carver, and Freamon make a bust, but the incident makes Avon and Stringer suspicious.
An unlikely source gives McNulty the tag of Stringer Bell's car. Later, Omar earns his 'loose cannon' reputation.
Barksdale plays an expensive game of one-upmanship with an east-side rival.
With Wallace in custody, McNulty and Daniels must figure out what to do with him in the time before he testifies.
While Greggs' life hangs in the balance, the entire department attempts to hunt down Savino. When Wallace flips, willing to testify that Stringer, Wee-Bey and Bird killed Brandon, Daniels stashes him in his grandmother's house on the outskirts of the city, but he soon becomes restless. Stringer tells Wee-Bey he needs to get out of Baltimore until the Savino investigation cools off, while Avon considers his next move. When McNulty and Pearlman try to pressure Levy into giving up Savino, he proves smarter than they gave him credit for. Meanwhile, when the detail's hand is forced, and a series of city-wide raids are ordered so as to appease Burrell's desire for "dope on the table," McNulty goes to see Phelan for help, but is surprised at his reaction. Daniels decides not to raid the main Barksdale stash house, but when word of his plan gets back to Burrell, he realizes there is a snitch in the detail. Elsewhere, Bubbles finds it increasingly difficult to stay clean.
Kima slowly recovers in the hospital. Stringer changes operations in the pit and the towers, rendering the wiretaps and clones useless, and prompting Burrell to begin dismantling the detail. Avon and Stringer meet Levy to discuss where their organization is vulnerable. Unbeknownst to the detail, Wallace returns to the pit to resume work. When Prez starts pulling political campaign finance reports, Pearlman is called to a meeting with a worried State's Attorney, and an angry Clay Davis confronts Daniels. Meanwhile, Stringer issues a difficult order to Bodie and Poot. With Shardene's help, the detail are able to install a camera in the strip club.
Due to the camera at Orlando's, the detail gather enough information to arrest Avon and many of his people, but, with Wallace dead, they are unable to bring charges against Stringer, who's left on the street. However, disgusted that Avon and Stringer had Wallace killed, D'Angelo flips on the entire organization, giving the detail more information than they could have ever hoped for. As Daniels figures out who the snitch is in the unit, Herc is shocked when he is passed over for promotion in favor of Carver, who scored lower on the sergeant's exam. In Philadelphia, Wee-Bey is arrested and gladly admits to murder after murder. Finally figuring out why Avon has been buying vacant properties in the city, Daniels, McNulty, Freamon and Pearlman take their evidence of political involvement to the FBI. Meanwhile, D'Angelo's mother, Brianna (Michael Hyatt), attempts to convince him to stand with the family.
