Having completed Long Way Round with friend and fellow actor Ewan McGregor, Charley wanted a new challange. The Dakar Rally provided this challange and over 10.000 km from Portugal, through Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea and Senegal across treacherous terrain in extreme temperatures the Dakar Rally is just about as hard as it gets.
Charley is not only faced with the challenging task of one of the toughest races in the world, he also has to find his team and get fit.
After suffering a major set back, a broken collar bone in Dubai Charley has his work cut out getting his team to the rally start line in Lisbon.
The boys are off! Only minutes into the start of the race and Charley faces his first problem…petrol or lack of it!
Charley, Simon and Matt roll off the ferry into the unknown of Morocco. Charley takes with him his fears and anxieties of the terrain
Simon and Matt continue the rally devastated that they are one man down. Charley has reached a real low and now wonders what his new role will be.
Simon and Matt make it to Nouakchott for day 8, the rest day. Here they are able to recuperate and reflect on their journey so far.
Charley is at the finishing line with his best mate Ewan McGregor to welcome Simon in.
