Aviva's piano is too large to fit through the door of her home on the kibbutz, until a terrorist's bomb provides an unexpected solution.
From School Library Journal
Grade 2-4 A story that demonstrates that sometimes good things can come from bad. Aviva, a recent immigrant to Israel from Argentina, lives with her parents on a kibbutz near the Lebanese border. Chaikin's brief story describes, in short sentences and simple language, the arrival of Aviva's piano from Argentina. The child is saddened because the piano will not fit through the door or window of her family's home. However, after a bombing raid, a large hole opportunely appears in the wall. Abolafia's many familiar cartoon drawings highlighted in green and orange bring to life Aviva's surroundings. Although the story is not one of Chaikin's best, it does provide a good description of a child's life on a kibbutz. Susan Scheps, Bertram Woods Library, Shaker Heights, Ohio
