What if someone asks you "What is the Talmud?" Your answer may be short, or it may take a long time to find. The short answer is easy: The Talmud is an ancient Jewish book--actually a collection of many books--which came into being between the third and the seventh centuries of 200-600 C.E. That answer tells us a little.
As I lead you through the Talmud, you will see that each passage of Talmud we study begins with an explanation of the Mishnah-passage which it is attached. Sometimes the Talmud will go on to expand and augment the Mishnah. At other times, the Talmud will take the theme or the subject of the passage and will tell us more things about that same subject...
