Plot

"From four continents and thousands of years of history, the women's division of the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT) has collected hundreds of recipes that represent the variety, the traditions, the imagination -- and the essential unity -- of Jewish cooking. Served up by women of sixteen countries -- Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, Peru, South Africa, and Switzerland -- all the recipes are Jewish, but each one has the distinct flavor of its country of origin. In addition to traditional Jewish dishes, including sabbath and holiday foods, 'The International Jewish Cook Book' offers adaptations, modifications, and variations on dishes from the culinary traditions of many lands -- dishes whose personalities change as a special Jewish touch is added."--

Notes

I bought this cookbook in college. It was filled with recipes my mother made. Since then I have used it so often the binding has come apart and I keep the individual pages together with a binder clip. This cookbook is unique in that is really is International. The Norwegian recipe for Blueberry soup is a rare and wonderful rind. In addition, it has an entire section just on pickles, a staple of Eastern European Jews. Ms. Froud has a very concise way of writing that makes recipes fun to play with. A sad loss it was never reprinted.
