The migrations from Eastern Europe, the search for adjustment in the new diaspora communities, the Nazis' destruction of half of Europe's Jewish population, the establishment of the State of Israel, the new religious trends within Judaism- all these and other events of major importance occurred within the past two generations. The first six decades of the twentieth century were for the Jews, as for the world in general, a period of violence and revolution, of promise, frustration, and hope. It is nothing less than startling to note the differenece in the life, material and spiritual, of each individual Jew as well as the Jewish group in the twentieth century.
