Plot

From Library Journal
How do children react to the experience of war? Journalist David has questioned people who were children living in Europe during World War II. Each chapter consists of one child's as-it-happened recounting of wartime experiences, with a few paragraphs giving the person's current status. The reader is left to wonder exactly how each interviewee told his/her story and how David rewrote it; in the form given, the stories don't really have value for historians. That said, however, it must be noted that the stories are absorbing. A common theme is that the children's experience of the war depended on their parents' presence and actions, and that the war was the most exciting time of their lives. Recommended for public libraries.
