Recounts a young girl's battle with a rare and deadly form of diabetes.

One's first reaction to this book is likely to be that the story of the death of a young child is indescribably sad, expecially when the child is as winsome, as lovable, and as vulnerable as Shira Putter. The enduring message of this book, however, is not that children sometimes get sick and die. We knew that before. It is that, in the words of the biblical Song of Songs, "love is stronger than death." All of us, whatever our ages, need to be reminded of that.
