Two decades since WWII have witnessed an interesting and radical transformation in American literary taste. From almost total neglect Yiddish literature in translation has become a presence in the literary market-place. The same has happend with literature by and about Jews, but that is another matter. This volume marks no special occasion, but merely seeks to make available a group of memorable stories, some of which have never before appeared in English translation and others which are newly translate.
