Plot

Harry Presleshnik upon liberation from the horrors of Auschiwtiz makes a harrowing journey to Israel. Here he finds rebirth through the love of a Sabra girl. TOgether they join in a mutual effort to overcome the turmoil, hatred, and fear brought about by the present mid-Eastern political conflict.

Set against the exciting history of Israel from the time of its fight for independence to the endo fo the Six Day War, the book proclaims the necessity of radical love and understanding between Israeli Arabs and jews.

While written in the form of a tender and beautiful love story, it is a universal witness to the importance of personal integrity as teh basis for human relationships in a world of extreme tension.

It is a graphic portrayal of life in a land undergoing great tensions today. But its signigicance 3extends far beyond the present crisis, for it embodies in a vivid and forceful way the lesson of Auschwitz; that only if men can learn to love and understand one another can future holocausts be prevented.
