The Baders are the sort of people everyone looks to for guidance. Samuel is the end product of a walthy family. Amelia, his wife, is aloving woman with hidden strengths. Halina, their daughter, is like young girls everywhere, growing up, reaching out, tasting life and wanting it all. When WWII comes to Poland, the Baderst ry to escape but discovering the futility of flight, they return to their home in Krakkov. They, their friends and neighbors can only wait and watch with mounting horror and disbelief, as their lives, their homes, the very basis of their being are systematically destroyed. And though all hardships, terrors, humiliations, they cling desperately with incredible courage to the will to live and to their ancient faith. Yet they have no weapon left but one: Love.
