Plot

A young woman who always considered herself of the "Old Christian" faith discovers she has Jewish roots. This is a terrible secret to hide in the midst of the Spanish Inquisition in the 17th century. When she falls in love with a man whose goal is to rise to a high position in the Catholic church, she must keep her secret from him in order to continue their relationship, but unbeknownst to her, he is on a secret mission on behalf of the Jews. She herself is working on an underground operation for the Jews as she presents her "Christian" side right within the court of the womanizing King Philip. I was very enmeshed with the intrigue, secrets, romance, and Inquisitional horror of this book. Besides entertaining, it was also very educational.
