K Street
K Street is a semi-improvised dramedy project from George Clooney about the world of political consulants in which fictional characters interact with real-life Washington insiders. The 10 episodes will be shot and edited literally a week before they air in order to follow current events. The show takes its name from Washington D.C.'s K Street.
Tommy Flannegan (John Slattery) accepts a job offer for James Carville to prep Gov. Howard Dean for the September 9 Democratic Presidential Debate in Baltimore, a choice that upsets Mary Matalin and Maggie Morris (Mary McCormack)--they worry that it will cause a rift with some of the firm's other clients. Democratic consultant Paul Begala helps Carville and Flannegan prep the candidate at the St. Regis, while Maggie visits with clients (including Senators Don Nickles and Rick Santorum) and tries to ensure them that Carville is not representing the firm in this case. Flannegan and Carville do some spin doctoring at Morgan State University while Mary and Maggie watch the debate with friends at Mary's house. Gov. Dean's joke about Trent Lott (suggested earlier by Carville) gets a big laugh, much to the displeasure of Matalin. Maggie has a cellphone conversation with her boyfriend--he can't meet up with her that evening. The next day, Mary and James interview job applicant Francisco Dupré
In the second episode of k street, Maggie (Mary McCormack) asked Francisco (Roger G. Smith) if he has been speaking to Prince Bandar. Prince Bandar bin Sultan has been the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the U.S since 1983. He is scheduled to have lunch with New Mexico governor Bill Richardson today (9/25/03). Richardson first met Bandar when he was U.S. energy secretary. OPEC surprised financial markets (which fell sharply) on Wednesday by cutting exports for November and driving up the price of crude oil.The firm prepares to pitch their services to the Recording Industry Association of America.
In episode three of K Street, Amnesty International and others question the firm's decision to represent a Saudi Arabian agency, Maggie is threatened with a restraining order and Tommy keeps seeing that mysterious woman in red. Amnesty International protests the firm's decision to represent a Saudi Arabian government organization.
