The Last To Remember (A FIC / LAV, J)

Plot

The skeleton of a young boy is unearthed and hung in the chapel of an old reform school. Soon afterward, one of Diamond Spring's wealthiest citizens storms into Sheriff Sharyn Howard's office to confess to the forty-year-old crime. Vividly describing the night he and two of his chums killed another boy when they were at school together, he implicates a prominent district court judge and Sharyn's own deputy. But before she can investigate, the self-confessed murderer hangs himself in the interview room. The coroner has a double shock for the sheriff: the body doesn't belong to the boy the murderer thought he'd killed, and the murderer was dead before he was hanged. When the judge barely survives a fire, Sharyn fears for her deputy's life too. Soon the dark deeds of past and present collide as a killer plots a final act of retribution that Sharyn may be too late to stop.
