The Nintendo Entertainment System reinvigorated the home console video game industry, and allowed developers a new platform on which to express their ideas for digital experiences. While some of these cartridges went on to become legendary classics, others became mired in obscurity, representing a failed attempt at a new idea catching on or a unique vision attaining prominence. One example of the phenomenon was the distinct NES title Videomation, published by THQ in 1991 and developed by FarSight Studios.
Rather than offer a traditional gameplay experience, like a platformer or puzzle game or other genre-fitting adventure, Videomation was a piece of graphic design software with some quirks. It can only even loosely be considered a “game,” but a review of the Videomation “video game” can be made anyway.
