It can be tough to evaluate a game when it's been development forever. The expectations can run high and the end result is often disappointing. In the case of Koei's WinBack:Covert Operations, it's been a long winding road from drawing board to game shelves, but it's been worth it. When the game was announced it had the promising premise of being a sort of Metal Gear Solid for the N64. It was originally scheduled for release last Christmas but at the last minute it was pulled so some of the game's camera issues could be worked out. Now that the game is out, many, not all, of the camera problems have been addressed and we're left with a unique spy thriller on the N64 that's one part MGS, one part Goldeneye with a little puzzle solving thrown in to keep you on your toes. Winback will certainly do its part this holiday season to fill the void left by a certain first person shooter that's been delayed until the spring.
