Eugene Martone (Ralph Macchio) has a passion for guitar. He is a virtuoso with the classical guitar at Juilliard, but longs to be world-famous blues guitarist instead. Deciding to set out to be a blues musician, he investigates to find some legendary lost blues song recordings of blues master Robert Johnson. Finding out that he needs help to find the recordings, he asks the legendary Blues musician Willie "Blind Dog" Brown (Joe Seneca) to help him. Unfortunately, Willie is incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital and demands that Eugene free him first. Also, Willie wants Eugene to truly learn the blues by going all the way to its birthplace in the Mississippi Delta. Thus begins a journey for the both of them into the heart of Blues country -- a spiritual one for Willie, and a life-changing one for Eugene, as Eugene must fight to save the soul of Willie from the Devil.
