Plot

Based on an actual escape from the Confederates by Claude Shaw, a slave-owning. businessman from the Ohio River area. A soldier in the 7th Ohio Cavalry, he was wounded and taken prisoner, accompanied by his slave Hannibal. A year later they escaped, traveling through enemy territory for 26 perilous days.
