Plot

During World War II the Luftwaffe was the only air force that had extensive practical knowledge of combat against the Soviet armed forces, engaging its numerically superior opponent with some success. After the war the U.S. Historical Research Division set up a project utilising the expertise of senior German officers who had been involved in air operations, in order to benefit from the lessons they had learned. The original document upon which Spearhead for Blitzkrieg is based was written as part of this project, its author having been a commander during the campaign in Russia. General Deichmann drew on his own experience to describe the types of operations that had worked, and, equally importantly, those that had not. For this new edition, eminent aviation authority Dr Alfred Price has completely re-edited the original translation to bring out the salient points. He has also added notes to amplify points made by the author.
