an artist's world
Wildlife and Wilderness: An Artists World by Keith Shackleton, Forward by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, Clive Holloway Books, London, England, First Published, 1986. This is a Collectible, First Edition, First Printing, Hardcover Book and Dust Jacket. A Very Handsome Book! A painting of polar wilderness by Keith Shackleton will always stand out in an exhibition of wildlife art. His pictures are big, evocative of a frequently hostile environment, and strikingly beautiful. Very few artists, and probably none that approaches Shackleton's ability, have had the good fortune to travel so far north and south, so often as he. This was made possible when he joined the adventure ship Lindblad Explorer as a naturalist and remained with her for fifteen years. In common with other wildlife painters he observes and studies what the layman might see, but not really take in. Wildlife artists have an uncanny ability to describe nature because they have to study it so closely in order to succeed in their representations of it. If the painter is a born raconteur and has spent years in the polar regions, a truly memorable account may be expected. This is it. FANTASTIC!
