Call the Midwife
Call the Midwife is a drama series adapted for television by Heidi Thomas from Jennifer Worth's best selling memoir of the same name. The series is a colourful look at the world of midwifery and family life in 1950s East End London. Jenny joins an eccentric community of nursing nuns having just qualified.
As Christmas 1963 approaches, Sisters Julienne and Winifred are called to the Mother House, where important decisions must be made. Meanwhile, Trixie returns from Italy, and the midwives help with a difficult birth.
As two new nuns join Nonnatus House, a shocking case exposes the seedier side of Poplar, while a complicated birth tests Trixie and Phyllis.
As Violet runs for election as a councillor, Lucille befriends an elderly woman facing eviction, and Sister Hilda supports a Ghanaian family suffering from a mysterious illness.
A troubled mother receives support from Shelagh and an unexpected source, Valerie helps a woman whose child is born with a cleft palate, and Phyllis has ambitious plans for the Whitsun bank holiday.
A friend of Trixie's finds herself in an impossible situation, while Sister Julienne endeavors to mend a fractured-mother daughter relationship.
A young bride-to-be suffers an identity crisis after the diagnosis of a hidden condition, an expectant father is diagnosed with a rare condition himself, and romance is in the air for Lucille.
When Phyllis is admitted to hospital, Mother Mildred returns to cover her assignments, and soon causes a stir, while Lucille cares for an unwed teenager who wants to keep her baby.
A woman's pregnancy is affected by her husband's infidelity, Sister Frances faces her first solo delivery, Shelagh receives news about May, and Valerie's loyalty is tested.
As Shelagh plans a ball to raise money for new medical equipment, Valerie must come to terms with recent events, while Sister Hilda assists a terminally ill young woman.
