Plot

In South Central Los Angeles in 1978, Grace Broussard, the youngest member of a Creole family transplanted from Louisiana, seeks to distance herself from her family through a ten point plan designed to shock them, but the ghost of her father interferes with her plans

A black woman's attempt to be modern by cutting loose from her family is foiled by the ghosts of her ancestors. Grace Broussard of Los Angeles gives up her religion, stops eating her mother's gumbo and becomes a lesbian, but the ghosts convince her of the error of her ways.
