A new interpretation of American feminism during the early decades of the century - a time usually viewed as one in which women won the right to vote and then lost interest in feminist issues. Nacy F Cott argues that instead this was a time of crisis and transition between the nineteeth century women's movement and modern feminism, and that many of the issues central to women today were first articulated during this period.
