There have always been women committed to the life of the spirit, but a dearth of available literature about them. As a result, women who set out on a spiritual journey generally only have male guides to refer to, yet they are likely to face significantly different problems from those encountered by men - not least the cultural predjudice that labels them incapable of reaching the highest states of awareness. by gathering together the rich and vivid biographies of six Tibetan female mystics and by describing her own experience of life as a Tibetan Buddhist non and subsequently as a wife and mother, Tsultrim Allione has provided us with the inspirational stories of women who, in a variety of difficult situations, have attained enlightenment and liberation.
