Plot

Firestarter begins in medias res with with young Charlie McGee and her father, Andy, on the run from a government agency known as The Shop. During their college years, Andy and his future wife Vicky participated in a Shop experiment dealing with "Lot Six", a drug with hallucinogenic effects similar to LSD. The drug gave Victkyminor telepathic abilities and Andy an autohypnotic mind domination ability he refers to as "the Push". As a result of scientific experimentation on her parents, Charlie has the ability to create fires, by force of will alone. After years of Shop surveillance, a botched operation to take Charlie leaves her mother dead. Andy and Charlie move several times to avoid discovery before the Shop catches up to them in New York. When the pair are captured, Charlie must decide between saving her father and using her fiery powers at the whim of a government only interested in using her...as a weapon!
