Home Improvement
Home Improvement is a family sitcom about Tim "The Tool man" Taylor (Tim Allen), the host of a local cable home improvement show called "Tool Time." Home Improvement looks at Tim at work, and at home, as the husband of Jill (Patricia Richardson) and the father to three teenage boys. Having been married for almost 20 years, Tim and Jill have had their share of fights, but with the help of their wise, mysterious neighbor Wilson W. Wilson, Jr. (Earl Hindman), things often turn out all right.
"Tool Time" visits the USS Constellation for a "Salute to Engines"; Jill catches Brad making out with his girlfriend.
Tim is set in his morning routine and Jill wants him to be a bit more flexible. Each dreams about what life will be like for them when they are seniors, each just as disturbing.
Jill takes an doubtful Tim to a marriage workshop for a "tune-up". When Tim is persuaded to open up, Jill is shocked by the revelations.
Jill is invited to her Psychology Dept Potluck Dinner, but banned from taking food. Randy likes a girl at school but a friend of Brad's asks her out. On Tool Time, a woman who knows more than Tim about cars is a guest.
When Al is asked to host an instructional video, he enlists Tim to direct it, but Tim becomes so obsessed with stylistic concerns that he runs wildly over schedule, and Al has to fire him.
Jill purchases a 1967 Austin Healey with some inheritance money; Tim is upset she purchased it without him. She tells him he cannot drive it, but of course, Tim does with the typical consequences.
It's Halloween, and the pranks begin. Brad and Randy begin with a head in the microwave, Tim and Jill follow up with actor playing a mysterious visitor. Brad and Randy find out and pretend to be frightened, causing Tim and Jill to worry.
Jill and her sisters get together to plan on their parents' 50th wedding anniversary, but there's one problem; they can't stop bickering. After an unproductive first day, Jill talks to Tim and is telling him that her sisters' bickering is driving her nuts and she's tired of always having to be the sensible one.
Tim is to receive an award from the Tri-City HotRod Club. As Tim, Jill, and Heidi drive to the banquet, the car runs out of gas and Heidi goes into labor. Tim & Jill help with the birth at a nearby gas station.
On Thanksgiving, Randy volunteers at a soup kitchen. Tim does not want to invite Benny to the Thanksgiving meal at his home, but when he goes to pick up Randy, he sees Benny eating there. Tim invites him, and then finds out Benny eats there because the soup is good.
When Brad gets a new job at a sporting goods store, he gets so excited over a perceived career possibility that he neglects his academic work.
The Tim Taylor family and Tim's brothers travel to their mother's home since she is moving. The brothers reminiscence over childhood items and things the dad built. The new owners come to see the house, the brothers find it hard to let go.
A door-to-door saleslady flirts with Tim, after which he buys a case of her household cleaner. Jill then avoids a speeding ticket by flirting with the policeman. This brings on humorous discussions on the issue of flirting - is it right or wrong? Jill struggles with flirting in order to get job but eventually she does the right thing.
While shopping in the mall, Mark uses karate to stop a bully from beating Randy. The incident is written in the school newspaper. Randy is embarrassed, and punches the boy who wrote the story.
Swedish buyers are interested in broadcasting Tool Time in Sweden, so they visit the set to watch the show. The show has many mistakes and boring segments. The Swedes decide to buy it, thinking it is slap-stick comedy.
Tim meets a woman who used to date his father. Tim doesn't want to learn more because he was afraid his father had an affair with the woman. Meanwhile, Tim cannot find the Valentine's Day gift he purchased for Jill.
Wilson performs a monologue on his life during an art festival. Wilson's performance is criticized as someone out of touch with reality, so he tries to become like Tim.
Tim throws a bachelor party for Al, and everyone tells negative tales of marriages. Al starts to doubt his decision to marry Ilene. The day of the wedding, Ilene starts to doubt her decision to marry Al.
Tim's friend Harry thinks his son Dennis is a slacker at work. Dennis takes a job to install a second phone for Tim; Harry accuses Dennis of not taking the job seriously. Tim wonders about his communication skills with his own children.
Brad passes his driver's test and gets his license. He gets to drive the car that night, and Jill obsesses over what could happen. Brad has an accident, but tells his parents he hit a pole instead of the back of a car.
Tim separates his shoulder and needs an operation the day before an award-winning show where he could drive a steamroller, and two days before a trip with Mark to see the Blue Angels. He escapes from the hospital, and causes further injury.
The Taylors attend an annual hardware expo. Tim is in seventh heaven at the expo, and Jill has plans to spend quality time with the boys while sight-seeing. However, the boys want to pursue their own interests with people their age.
Jill is upset to learn Brad's girlfriend, Angela, is doing Brad's laundry and other chores. Jill asks Tim to set an example of men not using women as servants. Tim realizes there is truth to what Jill says.
After completing a hectic quarter in college and is on break, Jill gets a call from her Father, The Colonel that he will be paying a visit. Jill, feeling tired, tells a lie to him saying that it wouldn't be a good time to visit because she's feeling sick, but a few days later, he dies.
Lisa, the former Tool Time Girl, finishes school and returns to visit Tim and Al. Tim asks Lisa to join the show as a guest. Heidi feels threatened and quits. Meanwhile, Randy goes on a first date with Lauren. He is nervous and awkward.
