Building a Strong Congregation
Ephesians 4:11-16
We the church at Burien are committed to bringing glory to God through Jesus Christ by teaching the Gospel to people in our community and the whole world, strengthening each other to worship and ministry, prayerfully serving and teaching the truth in love.
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Ephesians 4:15-16 speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
The New Testament church is a creation of the Lord Jesus Christ, and as such, has a divine mission or work to do. The primary work of the church is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to help save souls. This work involves evangelism, edification, and benevolence (Ephesians 4:12).
Matthew 16:18-19 on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Ephesians 4:6, 11-12 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift… And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ
The Lord’s church at Burien is a unified family that loves God and fellow man, is guided by faith in His inspired Word, is comforted by His Spirit, with hope of abundant life now and eternal life with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
John 17:17-21 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 20 I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 10:10,28 I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly... And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
We are a body of believers joined with Christ in baptism being transformed by the renewal of our minds as each member uses their God-given spiritual gifts to edify and encourage each other as we mature in loving God and serving one another through God's Holy Word, the Bible.
Romans 6:3-4 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
We are a family that humbly seeks God’s purpose in all we do. God has placed us here on Earth at this time and place to make a difference. Each person is a vital part of the family of God, and He desires to make a lasting difference one person at a time.
1 Peter 5:1-5 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."
Colossians 1:28-29 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.
Ephesians 4:14-16 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
