helping laity and clergy discuss homosexuality one question at a time
Is it time to stop . . .
- using the word homosexuality without defining it?
- confusing homosexual attraction with homosexual behavior?
- thinking categories of sexual orientation such as heterosexual and homosexual are separate from each other rather than a continuum from one to the other?
- misunderstanding the difference between an episode and a long-term relationship?
- claiming homosexuality is strictly biological, or environmental, or a matter of choice?
- interpreting the Bible as a static rather than a developing understanding of God's revelation?
- calling homosexuality a sin without clarifying what we mean?
- believing the Bible condemns a homosexual orientation without giving up the authority of the Bible?
-asserting that Jesus' view of homosexuality is the same as ours?
- saying the practice of homosexuality is "incompatible with Christian teaching"?
- fearing persons who have a sexual orientation or gender identity different from our own?
- socializing only with persons of our own sexual orientation or gender identity?
Is it time to start . . . expending our full energy on the mission of the United Methodist Church: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world?
