The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Famine, War, Pestilence and Death) finally arrive in New York City at midnight on New Year's Eve in the year 2000. To their shock, they aren't greeted with fear, but cheered on by revelers who think that they are part of a live concert. Shocked and dismayed by the nature of their welcome, the four retire to a nearby bar where they discuss their place in this new world, and interact with some of the people in it.Death, who has always preferred the slower methods of killing, comes to the realization that the massive amounts of pure sensation that the human mind processes desensitizes us, and leads to a kind of living death: a death of the spirit, but which leaves the body active. A death that reduces human beings to little more than insects, guided not by will, but drawn from sensation to sensation. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse decide to take on new identities in order to continue their mission in the world. Pestilence becomes Information. War becomes Incorporation. Famine becomes Fecundity and Death becomes Incoherence.
