It couldn't be a more simple premise - down-on-her-luck young woman loses dog, then searches for dog - but Michelle Williams imbues this quiet gem with so much more. Kelly Reichardt's film is lean and spare, yet speaks volumes about the state of contemporary society. And Williams conveys an exquisite range of emotion as she faces hardship after hardship in the quest to find her canine companion. (Andrea Baillie)
