Conan encounters a strange man in the hills, who tells him that Hyperborea is at war. This is soon confirmed, and he joins the fight against Hyperborea, first for personal revenge, and then to avenge a new-found friend who has fallen in battle. He bears witness to events more significant than he could have originally thought.
