One, Thara Ak-Var, is a prisoner in the bottle-city of Kandor. Adopted by Zor-El and Alura, the parents of her absent friend Kara, she becomes their chief of securitty before being claimed by Kandor's mysterious religious guild. The other, Lor-Zod, is a refugee trapped in the Phantom Zone. The child of Dru-Zod and Ursa, who was for a time raised by Kal-El on Earth. Now he is once more trapped in the Phantom Zone, trying to dodge his parents' wrath even as his body rapidly ages. A secret will draw these two together, prompting Thara Ak-Var to risk everything to rescue Lor-Zod from his torment. Together, the pair will become Flamebird and Nightwing, heroes to the Kryptonian people.
