The Eternal Army has allied itself with Constantine Augustus, Emperor of Rome. Through him, Brigadier General Nicholas Chase begins working to subjugate religious influences to those of the Empire. Using their knowledge of history, events that have not yet come to pass, they consolidate both Constantine's position and their own. But as the end of Constantine's life draws near, a question arises. Constantine's son, Crispus, has been inciting religious conflict. But Constantine asks Chase to support his son, challenging the General's devotion to the mission with his loyalty to the man.
