Notes

My quick rating - 4,5/10. This made Metacritic's top ten horror flix of 2021. I will just give a heads up that I rarely agree with that site but since I hadn't seen it, may as well check for myself. And I definitely wouldn't be placing this on my top ten. This is a somewhat interesting werewolf flick that is unfortunately so incredibly slow-paced which coupled with no impactful finish is a terrible mix. Also, the characters are just too weak to even hold your attention enough throughout the lulls, which there are many. Lauren Beatty is an indie singer, Grey, who seems at a loss for inspiration for her second album so her and her girlfriend head to a cottage of a former pop star turned producer for some ideas. During their time for no real reason at all, our plain jane vegan girl is all of a sudden craving meat and drawn to their host, Greg Bryk. I will say that with the thin script these actors were handed, they did the best they could. But the first problem immediately to me was the title. Everyone is going to expect brutal werewolf kills and special effects galore of humans turning into killing monsters but absolutely none of that is present. And once the viewers are settled in to see something else, they still get a really plodding story that isn't explained enough to make sense and just fiddles its way to the finish. The filmmakers toiled around with what is real and what is not by showing Grey need to take her anti-psychotics so there was that attempt but it was a mere blip in the background. At no point was it developing into it being in her head so I am not sure why they pretended with it in the first place. A side note to all of this, I really hope this isn't passing as quality music these days since she did come up with a couple of songs and I found them irritating as hell.
