Notes

My quick rating - 4.3/10. One of these two on this road trip cannot die quickly enough in this flick. Such an irritating character, which means he is playing his role well. Strangely better than I thought it would turn out, but still nothing worth the size or the time to watch. The flick is just a mish-mosh of far better flicks, and even with the outline from the others, they still find a way to let you down. The whole Duel meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a simple mix to follow, and I suppose now that I type that, I think they may have done the best they could on a minimal budget. But still, the acting is awful, the directing is mediocre at best, and the screenplay is a joke. But when the monster truck, which is the highlight of the whole movie, is injected into really poor chase scenes and the family aspect of crazies isn't explored at all until the end of the whole film, you just end up with a disappointing experience. It does, however, attempt to redeem itself towards the end when a bit of blood starts spewing, and a few of the jokes actually work. The remainder of the flick seems to be filled with inside jokes that the cast and crew probably think are priceless. It was nice to see Aimee Brooks again as the hitchhiker they don't pick up that turns up later on. She was also the only highlight in Critters 3, so she tends to be a savior when she pops up in these lesser horror flix. The whole thing is filled with cliches, and their idea of a plot twist should hit you even before it is suggested. It is that obvious. I have a feeling that for me, if the two leads had not been so painfully irritating and either the director or cinematographer had gotten some of the camera work under control, it would've been better, but just so many poor aspects all combined were just a tough hill to climb. Still, with all the negatives, it has a bit of charm to it somehow, just not enough to be something I would recommend. It did make me wonder how Michael Davis directed this one, and then turns around and makes Shoot 'em Up, which was a criminally underrated action flick that, directing-wise wise was spot on.
